The Gum Nebula is neutral territory and maintains the border between the United Galactic Republic and the Imperial Consortium.
The Nebula is one of the top resources for mining dentarite in the known galaxy, held within the small asteroids that float about inside. However, the vast thickness of the nebula wreaks havoc on most sensors rendering them useless. Because of this danger, only a small number of ships mine the area and a large amount of it is left unexplored.
